This boat restaurant is in a branch of the Landwehr Canal on the edge of Tiergarten, Berlin’s largest park, just below the Straße des 17. Juni (which is still mainly devoid of public houses).
Although the boat is only a few steps from the weekend fleamarket, it is not easy to find. The first clues are at the foot of the Charlottenburg Tor, facing the market on the opposite side of the street. A wooden path under tall trees takes the visitor down to the waterside, away from the noise of heavy traffic to the comfort of the boat’s deck, shaded from the sun. Coming from the park, the Capt’n Schillow can be reached by passing Lichtensteinbrücke (Lichtenstein Bridge) on the towpath to the left and right of the Landwehrkanal.
A snack on deck is a perfect end to a fleamarket visit, or a long stroll through the Tiergarten; or, if the evening is drawing in, an immaculate meal in the hull of the boat. |
